Struggling To Learn: An Intimate History of School Desegregation in South Carolina by June Manning Thomas
This book was written by a dear family friend of ours, Dr June Manning Thomas. She was Dan’s faculty advisor at the University of Michigan Taubman College where he got his Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning. She was a source of support for him then, and continues to be for us as a spiritual advisor/mentor. We are currently taking a class she’s leading which is focused on anti-Black racism in the US. Struggling to Learn: An Intimate History of School Desegregation in South Carolina part memoir, part historical scholarship, and all heart. The last time we were with June and Richard (her husband) we were introducing them to our joy drop and we were looking forward to her book coming out.
